A little pink head peeking out from under Mommy. It is so fascinating to watch the care given to the little ones by the mother. To see her tuck first the eggs and then her babies under her to keep them warm. As I'd watch I'd see her check the babies over from their head to their feet. The feedings were most interesting. When the babies were tiny they seemed transparent so one could see the feedings go down. Then as they grew bigger to watch their eagerness as they scurried to mommy, their beaks pointed up, to see who would get fed first.

Getting fed
What fun to be able to hold the baby bird first of all. Then to have one of the parent birds (in this case the daddy) come to feed the baby while holding the baby. One can't get closer than that. What an experience to watch and to learn about the birds. And then to get pictures this close was a challenge as not all the birds liked the camera so close.

My babies
In December of this last year all of the birds that I had went to a new home. It has been extremely quiet in my place since they have been gone. It had seemed at the time like a lot of birds to take care of. Looking back now I should have kept at least 2. Hindsight. There will always be a special place in my heart for all of them, always loved for their unique little ways. They went to a good home which I was thankful for. Now though there is no more listening to the chattering amongst the birds. No birds to welcome me home and to call out to me as I unlock the door and come in and hear my voice. No birds to come sit on my shoulder or hand and talk to me. Will have to see what the future holds.
